mesothelioma is a type of cancer which mainly affects the lining of the Lung. The main risk factor is asbestos exposure. When asbestos is inhaled, it accumulates in the pleural space and forms tumors. Patients typically present with breathlessness and chest pain. Even though asbestos is banned in the UK from any construction use, there still exists an increasing incident of mesothelioma as it takes 30-40 years to develop. There are four primary types of mesothelioma based on the location where a tumor first develops: pleural (lungs), peritoneal (abdomen), pericardial (heart), and testicular. In addition, mesothelioma can be categorized based on cell type – epithelioid, sarcomatoid, or biphasic – and according to malignancy. A range of treatments are available. Cisplatin is chemotherapy drug that is used in treating mesothelioma. It works by cross-linking DNA and altering the structure. In this research, the purpose is to provide a thorough understanding of the physicochemical properties of cisplatin and to examine its molecular mechanisms of action in targeting the tumor cells. It doesn’t cover the ADME of the drug.
