Bean beetles (Callosobruchus maculatus) are an insect located in Africa and Asia. Bean beetles are pests that lay their eggs on the surface of bean crops. When the females lay their eggs on the bean it is called “oviposition”. A few days after the eggs have been laid the larva will burrow into the bean. “Pupation and emergence of the beetle happen 25-30 days after oviposition. Adults mature 24-36 hours after emergence and they do not need to feed” (lab book? Idk how to cite that). Mature adults live about one or two weeks, in that time that mate and lay eggs as many times as possible to ensure a high offspring population.
Larvae are unable to move so the female must choose wisely which eggs she picks for her offspring.
